About
Thank you for coming aboard Doujin Group Gunship. If you're not here to see and purchase fanwork collaborations celebrating all things Mobile Suit Gundam, well, you've fallen down a very strange rabbit hole, friend.
The reason why we've come together to make DGG is simple. Famously (or I guess 'famously' if you talk to the right people) the late 70s and early 80s was the birthplace of Japanese derivative works in the way that we think of them now; doujins and fan content and fanfiction. Of course, this isn't a completely isolated phenomenon, people have been writing derivative works for as long as there were works to derive from, but there is something special to be said about the accessibility and sheer amount of works being produced during this time. Gundam's creation and rise syncing with the rise of doujin and (for lack of a better word) classic fujoshi culture just made an already attractive new show even more of a rewarding topic for fanwork. The rest is, quite literally, history. Quite a few of the young people, both men and women, who wrote and produced doujin and fan magizines in the 70s went on to professional work in the industry, but that's not what we're trying to recapture here. What we're chasing with Gunship is a feeling of community and collaboration amongst fan-creators and to create tangible results that we are both satisfied with and can share. With the amount of works produced in the 70s we, forty plus years later, have a lot of catching up to do.
